Won't the trip to the Arctic damage the environment? The main purpose of the Ice Edge competition is to raise awareness of issues that affect the environment. By taking the winners of the competition to the area that they are trying to protect, they will be able to see first hand the damage that has been caused in the region, particularly by changes in the climate.

We have calculated the carbon cost of the trip and will be making donations to cover the cost via the Carbon Neutral Company (www.carbonneutral.com).

If I win how much will the trip cost me? At this stage it's best to focus on coming up with a great idea. The whole trip is paid for and if you win we'll make sure you've got all the equipment that you need too - so get thinking!

When will the final judging event happen? If the judges think your idea is really good, you'll be asked to come to London on either Friday 4th May or Saturday 5th May to present your idea in person.
The jugding will take place at Imperial College, South Kensington Campus, London SW7 2AZ.

What is Ice Edge for?

The competition is designed to inspire 13 to 17 year olds and promote practical learning in science and technology.  It's also to encourage young people to think about our natural environment and what we can do to improve it.  And let's not forget it's about having fun too.

Do I have to pay anything? No, it’s all free. If you get to the finals we pay your expenses to stay nearby on Finals Day and if you win – lucky you - we pick up the tab for your flights, travel, board and food. How good is that?
